He was appointed to City Council and then later voted in as mayor of Lacona. He was an EMT / Firefighter volunteer for 42 years, holding the positions of Rescue Chief and Fire Captain. Part of that learning came from his love of being a member of the Lacona Fire Department, Warren Co Mutual, and Western Iowa Mutual Insurance. He would often say he had 84 years of learning at the University of Life. He then worked McConnell Concessions for 20 years until his last figure 8 race on May 22, 2021. He owned and operated Whole Punch for 5 years. Which he owned and operated for 22 years. In 1969 he moved back to Lacona and worked on the family farm, before opening Dittmer Sales and Services. While working construction he traveled with the family all over the state of Iowa. In 2007 he was united in marriage to Charlotte Heaton.įranklin was a hard worker and in 1960's he worked for Bobby Obrien Construction, Merrick, JD Armstrong, and Dusenberg Construction. In 1956 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Wallace and to this union they were blessed with Debra, Robert, Anita, and Nadine. After school he worked as a janitor and later as the bus mechanic / superintendent for SEW Schools.
